This indeed will be a huge blow for Eoin Morgan’s England side. English stalwart Joe Root is likely to miss the ODI leg of the India tour, which is scheduled to begin on 15th January as he and his partner Carrie are expecting their first baby during that time.
Few English media channels and websites have reported that Root is not willing to fly back to India till their baby is born. Post that exhilarating 5-Match Test series, the series was scheduled in such a way that the English players can fly back to their homes and comeback one the series starts.
Apparently the date of her delivery is scheduled to be on January 12, the date when England will be participating in a warm up match before the start of the main ODIs at Pune.
Root, who turned 26 last week, is one of the most prolific batsmen in the fraternity at this moment of time and is one of the few players who excels playing in the spinner friendly conditions. If he will miss out, it will be interesting to see who will take up the number 3 spot.
England are scheduled to play 3 ODIs and 3 T20 Internationals, before the Test season restarts for India. The first ODI will be hosted at the scenic Maharashtra Cricket Association stadium in Pune.
The T20I series will follow after the ODI series and post that, the Test season restarts. India will first play a Test match against Bangladesh, the first ever Test for Bangladesh in India and Australia will be here to play a 4 match series.
